TOKYO (Reuters) - Japan's Fujitsu Ltd and Taiwan's state-backed Institute for
Information Industry said on Tuesday they would set up a venture to provide
WiMAX software to enable high-speed wireless networks.
Fujitsu, whose products also include hard disk drives, mobile phones and PCs,
and the Taiwanese institute aim to set up the venture in March 2008, capitalized
at $5 million.
The two would supply the software, designed to link applications on WiMAX
handsets and base stations, to Taiwanese vendors and other manufacturers seeking
to lower development costs.
WiMAX, or Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access, provides wireless
data over long distances, allowing faster Internet downloads while on the move.
