Earlier this morning I posted a review of the XFX 8800 GTS 512MB XXX graphics card. Today was the launch of the new NVIDIA 8800 GTS 512MB cards. NVIDIA’s official announcement says that the new 8800 GTS 512MB card has 25% more processing power than NVIDIA products previously offered at the same price point.
The new card is also PCI Express 2.0 complaint and uses the second-generation PureVideo engine from NVIDIA. The old 8800 GTS 640MB graphics card had more RAM at 640MB, but has less stream processors at 96 compared to the 128 of the new GTS 512MB.
That means much better performance even though the amount of RAM has decreased. NVIDIA says the price of the 8800 GTS 512MB cards will run from the $299 to the $39 range. I won’t be surprised to see some of the special overclocked cards going for more than that amount.
