Photo: AtariMuseum.com With all the new handheld gaming systems on the horizon, we thought it would be interesting to step in our time machine and look at one of the most intriguing handheld gaming systems that never came to be. The Atari Cosmos used holographic "backdrops" to give an interesting environment to the "flashing LED's" that made up the actual games. It never came to market, and only two known working models exist today.
I still have my Mattel Battlestar Galactica handheld game - flashing LED's fueled with my imagination equaled hours of entertainment. I know that at the time, a 3D background AND flashing LED's would have been a huge selling point for my 10 year old self.
