TOKYO (Reuters) - Toshiba Corp said on Friday it would buy large liquid crystal
display (LCD) panels from Sharp Corp as part of an alliance between the two
electronics makers in the LCD business.
Toshiba said it will procure panels from a 380 billion yen ($3.4 billion)
factory being built by Sharp in Osaka Prefecture, western Japan, while Sharp
will procure semiconductors from Toshiba for use in its LCD TVs.
The two companies said in a news release that the alliance would help them
compete amid tough competition.
