LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - "Madea" filmmaker Tyler Perry will head the
Starfleet Academy in the "Star Trek" feature that has been shooting since
November.
Perry joins an ensemble that includes Chris Pine (Capt. Kirk), Karl Urban
(Bones), Zoe Saldana (Uhura), Anton Yelchin (Chekov), John Cho (Sulu), Zachary
Quinto (Spock), Bruce Greenwood (Capt. Pike), and Simon Pegg (Scotty).
J.J. Abrams is directing the Paramount project.
Perry most recently wrote, directed, co-produced and co-starred in "Why Did I
Get Married?" His multi-hyphenate film credits include "Daddy's Little Girls," "Madea's
Family Reunion" and "Diary of a Mad Black Woman."
His next project is "Meet the Browns," which he also wrote, produced and is
directing.
