Yesterday at the Logitech press conference I had the chance to play a bit with the Logitech Di Novo Mini keyboard. The keyboard is very light weight and the clam shell cover keeps the keys from getting pressed accidentally when not in use.
Logitech didn’t make a big deal about the PS3 functionality of the keyboard at the event, but Kate Brinks form Logitech showed me that the Mini has a toggle switch on the bottom of the keyboard under a door that hides the stowable Bluetooth adapter. When you flip the switch you can use the Mini as the keyboard for your PS3 and control the PS3 Blu-ray playback with it as well.
The keyboard is very small as you can see in the image here of me holding the keyboard. I was impressed by the size of the keys, which are perfectly sized for a thumb keyboard. You can hit the keys swiftly and in my brief hands on time I found them to be very accurate and mistakes from hitting the wrong key were rare.
The keys themselves have a very nice tactile feel that reminds me a lot of the typing feel on the keyboard of my Dell m1330 notebook. The touchpad on the Mini is very much like the touch pad on the Di Novo Edge in that it pulls double duty.
A toggle on the Mini allows you to choose to use the touchpad area as a mouse; in this mode the light surrounding the touchpad is orange. Flip the toggle and markings you can’t see in mouse mode show up on the Mini allowing you to use it to control the cursor like a D-pad. Logitech says the wireless rang for the keyboard is around 30 feet. One item of note for those astute enough to notice the Mini has no alt key in the images here is that Logitech is redesigning the keyboard to add the alt key. In the Windows world control-alt-delete is a must have feature.
