Netflix announced today that it was adding unlimited streaming of TV and some movies for its members on the unlimited movies plan for the same price. Starting today Netflix unlimited plan members can stream as many hours of movies and TV programming as they want to their PCs.
Previously members on the $17 unlimited DVD plan could only stream 17 hours of programming to their PCs. "Unlimited has always been a very powerful selling point with our subscribers and a large part of what set us apart in the marketplace," said Leslie Kilgore, the company's chief marketing officer. "In talking with members about our streaming feature during the past year, it became clear that, as with DVDs, the idea of streaming unlimited movies and TV episodes on a PC resonated quite strongly. And we're now in a good position to offer that."
Other Netflix users will continue to have a set amount of streaming time. The $4.99 Netflix plan that allows for 2 DVDs a month allows two hours of video streaming per month. Netflix now features a variety of TV programming that can be streamed like Heroes and The Office.
