Carl Zeiss debuts video glasses for the iPod dubbed Cinemizer at the MacWorld Expo 2008.
Zeiss promises unparalleled image quality in video eyewear on an imaginary screen with a 45 inches (115cm) diagonal at a distance of 78 inches (2 meters).
The video glasses feature integrated headsets and are designed by the people at Frog Design. A wired remote control lets you play, stop and pause the video. The battery of the video glasses is integrated in the iPod dock.
Besides the iPod, other video sources can be connected via the available video-In. The LCD screens used in the Cinemizer have each VGA resolution.
The Cinemizer can be adjusted to fit people having to wear glasses. On each screen the diopter settings (+/–3.5 dpt) can be adjusted. The adjustment is guided with a test screen displayed when pressing the Play button for 5 seconds. This is pretty neat.
Because the Cinemizer has two LCD displays 3D mode is also available, when you have an appropriate source.
The Zeiss Cinemizer will be available in 5 colors and start shipping in February/March time frame in Germany. The price is supposed to be 370 Euro (~$540). This is pretty steep pricing when compared to the Vuzix Video Glasses.
More details on the Zeiss Cinemizer site. Via Heise (German).
