Cheertek Digital Frame Design Uses Bluetooth

CSR announced today that it and digital picture frame provider Cheertek have teamed up to produce a reference design for a Bluetooth chipset for photo frames. The chipset is called the BlueCore4-ROM, which is a complete Bluetooth system for minimum time to market for OEMs.

Frames using the Bluetooth chipset would be able to receive pictures over Bluetooth and play streamed Bluetooth audio as well. Bluetooth versions 1.2, 2.0+EDR, and 2.1+EDR are supported. The Cheertek development kit is slated for availability in February.

Other features in the Cheertek frame design include a RISC processor and AVRCP remote control functionality. "This design offers remarkably diverse functionality," Said Tracy Hopkins, Vice President of CSR's Consumer Business Unit. "The convenience factor will ensure that frames based on this design will sell well, as well as the audio capabilities. We believe that wireless functionality is going to be a huge market driver in the next generation of digital photo frames."
