Pentax Announces New Optio M50, S12, E50 and A40 Cameras

Pentax Imaging Company announced four new digital cameras in its Optio line. The Optio M50 has a 5x optical zoom and is very thin and light. Features of the camera include Smile Capture function that releases the shutter automatically when the subject smiles. The M50 will ship in March for $229.95.
The Optio S12 is the smallest 12MP digital camera in its class according to Pentax. The camera will be available in April for $279.95 and will come in sliver or black. The Optio E50 runs off AA batteries and will be available in March for $149.95.
The final new Optio camera is the A40 shipping in February for $299.95. This camera has shake reduction and advanced capture settings. “PENTAX’s goal with our compact digital cameras is to offer customers advanced features in the most compact bodies at a reasonable price,” said Ned Bunnell, President, PENTAX Imaging Company. “Every compact offering from PENTAX includes the popular face recognition feature, Digital Shake Reduction, PENTAX’s own Auto Picture mode and high quality design.”
