LeapFrog Leapster2 and Didj Web Connected Handhelds

LeapFrog announced a pair of new learning handhelds today that are web enabled. The Leapster2 Learning Gaming System expands gameplay to online with activities and rewards that encourage play. The online system also allows parents to see what kids are playing and learning online with the system.

The new Didj Custom Gaming System connects gameplay with schoolwork for grade school kids and allows them to customize spelling lists and math problems. The Didj system can be customized visually as well and is intended for six to ten year old students. The screen is a 3.2-inch LCD with 16 million colors on a 320 x 240 TFT display.

The device uses an ARM 9 processor running at 393MHz and has 256MB of flash memory. The Didj system has an MSRP of $89.99 and the software for the system will retail for $29.99 each. The new Leapster2 will sell for $69.99. Both systems will be available in summer 2008.
