At the core of the writers’ strike was the lack of revenue for writers from Internet distributed TV programs. A new report released today from Parks Associates on new advertising platforms and technologies shows that multimedia advertising will be huge.
The total advertising revenue from new media platforms in the U.S. is expected to be $12.6 billion by 2012 and advertising for broadband multimedia will account for over $6.6 billion of that total.
“The floodgate is open, and the deluge of ad spending to these new platforms is irreversible," says Harry Wang, Senior Analyst, Parks Associates. "There must be interest alignment among major stakeholders to avoid frictions like the Writers Guild strike that hinder content flow to these new platforms."
