New Medium Enterprises who promotes and makes players and movie titles for its own VMD HD movie format says now that HD DVD is gone, it’s time to look at VMD. NME says that both VMD and Blu-ray use 6-inch optical disc formats and have players and content in the market.
The big benefit of VMD according to the NME is that the players are cheaper because they are based on red laser technology. "The way is now clear for VMD to be embraced by the industry, our technology is robust and our format is clearly equal to the quality required to deliver a true HD experience for the consumer at a price they are prepared to afford" Said Interim CEO Geoff Russell.
The VMD format can display at full 1080p like Blu-ray. Personally, I just don’t see this happening at all. The market is just getting used to the idea of crowning Blu-ray as the HD format king. I seriously doubt that a HD format with a much smaller support base than HD DVD had stands a chance of being accepted broadly against Blu-ray.
