Research firm In-Stat released a new study today that shows 2007 was a banner year for ultra mobile devices and mobile Internet access. The report cites the growth as a result of improved mobile processors, new devices, and improved connectivity.
"Major moves by processor manufacturers will continue to enable new UMD designs (primarily UMPCs and MIDs)," says Ian Lao, In-Stat analyst. "New processor platforms such as Silverthorne from Intel and Isaiah from VIA will continue to target not only performance but also power dissipation."
The study listed some overall findings that indicate continued growth of the segment including WiMAX and other long range wireless broadband services. Mobile internet usage is becoming more common place thanks to the iPhone, Q1/Q1 ultra, and N810 and similar devices. The iPhone safari browser has been widely reported to be one of the most frequently used mobile web browsers illustrating the adaption of the device and mobile Internet usage.
