ABI Research says it conducted an online survey of 1,002 US consumers in December of 2007 to discover how service providers were viewed, what programming was used and price sensitivity toward service options.

ABI called the viewing habits of US consumers baffling. ABI says, “Americans do a lot of time-shifting with PVRs, and a lot of gaming, and plenty of people have installed home theaters," reports ABI Research vice president Scan Schatt. "They are likely to consume a lot more video over the next several years.”

The survey found that 38% of survey respondents had home theater systems or game consoles attached to their TVs. The study showed that almost as many used DVRs while only a relative few used network media adapters or Slingbox devices. Over 25% of respondents chose their TV service based on price. Only 15-20% noted customer service and programming quality was a factor. The study also showed that 40% had HD TVs, but less than half were using HD programming packages.
