Palm announced its revenue for Q3 2008 that ended February 29th. Palm profits were up backed by strong demand for its Centro smartphone with $312.1 million in revenue. Palm’s Centro smartphone sold a record 833,000 units for a 13% year over year increase. Palms says its smartphones revenues were $275.4 million.
"Centro is off to the strongest start of any smartphone in Palm's history," said Ed Colligan, Palm president and chief executive officer. "Centro's fun design, great price point and amazing array of easy-to-use features is expanding Palm's customer base with more than 70 percent of Centro buyers trading up from traditional cell phones."
Palm reported a net loss of $31.5 million. A recent survey put Palm at the bottom of the pile for customer satisfaction among smartphone buyers. The cheap selling price of only $99 for the Centro compared to the hundreds most smartphones sell for no doubt helps to move the device.
