AT&T was one of the biggest winners in the FCC Wireless spectrum auctions that closed recently. AT&T issued a statement about its wins of prime B Block spectrum. AT&T says that when combines with the Aloha Partners transaction that closed earlier this year it now has a leading spectrum position in the wireless industry.
"AT&T's strong spectrum holdings position the company to further enhance the quality and reliability of existing wireless broadband and voice services, and to set the foundation for new-generation wireless broadband technologies and services." said Ralph de la Vega, president and CEO of AT&T's wireless unit.
AT&T says that once the spectrum is finally awarded its 700 MHz spectrum will cover 100% of the top 200 markets. When combined with the spectrum won in previous auctions AT&T will have coverage for 95% of the US population.
