Fujitsu announced its latest notebook hard drive today in the MHZ2 BJ series. The new drive has a 320GB storage capacity but still spins at a speedy 7200 RPM. Typically higher capacity notebook drives only spin at 5400 RPM or less.
The drive requires 2.3 watts of power, so the performance it provides won’t hit the battery especially hard. The drive uses the SATA 3.0 Gb/s interface and is manufactured in compliance with RoHS directives.
The drive has a 16MB buffer and the acoustic noise at idle is only 2.5bles. Average latency for the drive is 4.17ms with a seek time for read of 10.5ms and a seek time for write of 12ms. The drive can withstand 325g of shock when operating and 900G when not operating.
