Motorola will demonstrate its expanded femtocell portfolio, including its CDMA solution, at the CTIA Wireless 2008 April 1st-3rd in Las Vegas.
An expansion to its current line of femtocell customer premises equipment (CPE), including the company’s first 3G UMTS femtocell CPE announced at Mobile World Congress last month, the CDMA-based femtocell enhances the company’s end-to-end femtocell portfolio.
The CDMA femtocell solution is expected to be commercially available in the fourth quarter of 2008.
Femtocells are small, low-cost and low-power cellular access points that connect to a consumer’s existing broadband Internet service, enabling operators to provide higher-quality and higher-performance wireless voice and real-time data services to their customers inside their homes. In addition, they enable a lower cost of delivery for wireless traffic in comparison to a macrocell network. For consumers, femtocells enable a seamless communication experience as they roam from inside to outside their homes, reduced “in-home” call charges, improved indoor coverage and consolidated billing.
