Dell and Sam’s Club (you know the place owned by Wal-Mart where you can get a six gallon jug of mayo) have teamed up to offer Dell buyers a carbon offset option. The program helps environmentally conscious computer users offset the carbon emissions from the making of the electricity required to operate their computers.

Under the plan a customer would pay an extra $2 for a laptop and $6 for a desktop computer. The funds would go towards planting trees to absorb carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. The trees for the project are planted by The Conservation Fund and the Carbonfund.org in managed reforestation projects.

"Our success in addressing climate change, energy depletion and other global challenges ultimately depends on our ability to empower and inspire the ReGeneration, people of all ages who care about the environment," said Tod Arbogast, director of sustainable business at Dell. "Programs like 'Plant a Tree for Me' provide a simple and tangible way to make a difference."
