The U.S. Army seems to be looking into replacing the Humvee combat vehicles with a new generation. A concept by BAE Systems has apparentely good chances at winning the deal according to German Bild Zeitung.

The Humvee was released in 1985 and first saw combat in 1989 in Panama. There are some issues with the Humvee including reliability, enormous fuel consumption (down to 4.7mpg) and high maintenance costs.

The BAE Systems combat vehicles would be better suited to withstand mines and use a robust Diesel truck engine. The design looks quite cool.

BAE Systems, Inc. is developing new combat vehicles and is 100% based in the United States.
There are more photos of the BAE Systems vehicle on the Bild site. See also the BAE Systems site.
