Swann Communications has announced a new DVR system to allow security monitoring on a notebook computer. The device is called the USB 2.0 DVR Guardian and Swann says it can turn any notebook computer into a recording security device.

The device plugs directly into a USB port and allows for recording on one to four cameras simultaneously. The graphics interface allows the device to record for a specific amount of time or to be set up for motion detection surveillance. The system can also be controlled and viewed remotely over the Internet. The device retails for $99.99 and is available now.

“Following the success of our PC based monitoring and recording solution (PC DVR4-Net Security Guardian), we wanted to create a similar solution for our customers who use notebook computer users,” remarked Guy Pithie, Swann Communication’s Vice President North America. “Since the USB Guardian records directly onto the computers hard drive, managing recorded data is a breeze. All files are organized with an index of date and time stamping so the user does not have to waste time tracking down the event they are looking for. This surveillance system is powerful enough to secure small to medium-sized businesses, but easy enough to use that any home owner can install it.”
