ROUND ROCK, Texas (Reuters) - A Dell Inc executive said on Thursday the computer
maker has room to be more experimental with consumer gadgets, but he declined to
comment on whether it plans to sell mobile phones.
"There's nothing to comment on at this point," said Alex Gruzen, senior vice
president of Dell's consumer product group, in response to a question at the
company's analyst meeting near Dell headquarters in Round Rock, Texas.
"At the end of the day, we are about connecting customers, whether it's at their
business or their home," Gruzen said. He added that the company's PC-based
relationships with mobile wireless carriers had "created enormous
opportunities."
Some analysts have said Dell, the world's second-largest PC maker after
Hewlett-Packard Co , is poised to enter the mobile phone market as it expands
its consumer business. Gruzen said a number of obstacles have been removed in
Dell's consumer business, giving it "room to be a bit more experimental" with
products.
