Bluetooth gets faster with EDR

The Bluetooth Special Interest Group has signed off on a new version of the bluetooth protocol that enables a 3x faster transfer speed.
Current bluetooth 1.1 and 1.2 have a data transfer speed of 723.2 kbit/s. The EDR (enhanced data rate) bluetooth will have about 2Mbit/s bandwidth. The EDR bluetooth is also supposed to use less power.
The first devices supporting EDR bluetooth should already arrive 2005.
Bluetooth is gaining momentum. Right now 2 million bluetooth enabled gadgets are sold very week. All in all about 150 million bluetooth devices have been sold.
