Sanyo issued a statement denying media reports of a possibly merger with Matsushita.
The information picked up by Reuters is from the Japanese Yomiuri newspaper.
Sanyo says that this information is not announced by SANYO or Matsushita, and are untrue.
Still the Sanyo stock rose by about 9%.
