E Ink recently announced its next generation displays which are available in custom and segmented cells. The segmented display cells are simple digit, icon and alpha-numeric displays that offer readability in a paper thin form. The thin form requires less battery power to operate.
The new SDCs are 40% thinner and have a wider operating temperature range and increased flexibility. The SDCs are flexible enough for repetitive 3D bends or 2D conformable solutions. E ink says the new displays can be used in consumer electronics, PC accessories, smartcards, capacity indicators, and more.
E Ink says the SDCs use the same E Ink Vizplex technology currently shipping in the Amazon Kindle and the Sony Reader. The Delphi key fob pictured here uses the new E Ink SDC. "When you need information to make a decision, an E Ink SDC display lets you see it quickly and clearly from any angle," said Russ Wilcox, President and CEO, E Ink Corporation. "With a paper-thin and flexible plastic display that can be cut to any shape, innovative product designs are limited only by the imagination of the designers."
