The NY Times reports that Apple is supposedly negotiating new extended deals with Music Labels to offer iTunes songs over-the-air (OTA) on the 3G iPhone. The NY Times cites music label executives as sources.

With 3G support downloading songs is technically no problem. Apparently the music labels like to charge more money for a song that is downloaded OTA. The labels try to get Apple to allow different pricing on tracks.

Right now all songs on iTunes sell for 99c.

The announcement of OTA music downloads on the 3G iPhone could happen still in June, possibly at the same time as Apple introduces the 3G iPhone.
