Australian Telstra claims to be running the 3G iPhone with 42Mbps still this year.
The 42Mbps is much faster than what AT&T will offer with their 3G network. AT&T 3G uplink speeds are between 500 and 800 Kbps and download speeds are up to 1.4 Mbps.
42Mbps is specificed in the new Evolved HSPA protocol.
It will be interesting to see where in Australia the 42Mbps are actually going to be available. The interesting take away would be that the 3G iPhone supposedly has a future proof 3G chipset.
Telstra also said that the 3G iPhone would be available soon after June 9th in Australia and that they already have test units.
