Verizon Wireless announced that in Q1 2008 its network handled a record setting amount of text messages. Verizon says it delivered nearly 58 billion text messages from coast to coast. Verizon seems to acknowledge that some of those messages were unwanted and are offering ways for people to limit who they receive text messages from.
Customers can block text messaged completely, from the Internet, from up to 15 specific domains or e-mails and only allow texts to be sent to specific emails. Verizon also allows customers to block specific mobile numbers from sending or receiving text messages.
I can certainly see the need for this sort of blocking service. My son gets more sales calls on his phone than I do on mine. We have had to teach him to not answer if mom or dad doesn’t pop up on the screen from caller ID.
