As reported yesterday, Michel Fournier's Big Jump failed because the balloon left without him.
Details of the failed record attempt have been communicated in a press-conference held late yesterday.
Most likely a mechanism that is needed to cut the capsule from the balloon and parachute it back to earth opened too early.
Michel Fournier plans to come back to Canada in August with two balloons. First he needs to raise the funds for these very expensive balloons though - each costing about US$200,000.

By August Michel Fournier might be not the first human to jump from a height of 130,000 feet. British stuntman Steve Truglia plans what he calls "Space Jump" from a height of 37km in July. I guess he will adjust that height to 40km.
More details on Edmonton Journal and in this Edmonton article.
See also the now redesigned (a little too late) Le Grand Saut site. More details about Steve Truglia's Space Jump can be found here.
