Kensington isn’t the only company bringing a new USB display adapter to market using DisplayLink technology. EVGA has added a pair of USB adapters to its product line called the UV12 and the UV16. The EVGA adapters are XP and Vista compatible only.

The EVGA UV12 supports resolutions up to 1280 x 1024 or 1440 x 900 widescreen. The UV16 ups the supported resolution to 1600 x 1200 or 1680 x 1050 widescreen. The adapters are stackable and up to four additional displays can be connected via the adapters to one PC. The adapters support mirrored desktop, extended display and a primary display. Exact pricing is unknown, but EVGA says both will retail for well below $100. If that is correct it makes them much cheaper than the Kensington adapter.

"DisplayLink technology enables us to deliver a UGA that is affordable, portable, and easy to use, which dovetails perfectly with EVGA's strategy of penetrating broader consumer markets," said Joe Darwin, director of marketing for EVGA. "At the same time, we hope that the EVGA UV12 and UV16 will help bring DisplayLink's exciting USB display technology to a wider mainstream audience."
