HP has introduced what it calls the first affordable color-critical display. The HP DreamColor display can reproduce more than 1 billion colors with a 30-bit LED backlit display. The DreamColor display is shipping now for $3499.
HP says that the new display delivers more than 64 times as many colors as a mainstream LCD. It also claims that reds, blues, and greens are deeper than that blacks are 4 times deeper in the DreamColor display and whites are adjustable. One button access to all standard color pre-sets is offered as well. The size offerings for the DreamColor display were not mentioned.
"With the new DreamColor display, HP has broken through barriers that have existed in display technology for the past decade," said Ed Leonard, chief technology officer, DreamWorks Animation. "The new DreamColor display packs a list of significant advances into one amazingly powerful display, enabling an unprecedented level of color management and fidelity in our production process. It's a digital filmmaker's dream."
