Nuance has unveiled a voice search prototype for the Apple iPhone. The application is designed to allow iPhone users to speak search commands into their phone to search the web for items of interest. Nuance says that you could say things like “Find Apple Store in Boston, Mass” and get results.

Nuance also says that future revisions will allow iPhone users to dictate email, text messages and more. Nuance says that no voice training is required for the service to operate. The prototype is code named OVS for open voice search.

When Apple announced the iPhone 3G it made no mention of voice dialing. It would be great if Nuance could extend this application to the iPhone itself to allow for voice dialing. However, with the rather bad keyboard of the iPhone voice search and text dictation would be very welcome by most users.
