Logitech pulled the wraps off its first Mac compatible webcam today that features premium autofocus technology and Carl Zeiss Optics. The camera is called the Logitech QuickCam Vision Pro webcam for Mac. Logitech says that the webcam uses a voice coil for autofocus rather than a stepper motor.
The camera is designed to work with iChat and Skype services on Mac systems. Logitech says focusing is fast and fluid and that the camera can focus on things as close as 10cm to the lens. Focusing occurs in less than 3 seconds. The sensor in the camera is a 2-MP unit and RightLight technology is included as well.
The cam can record full 30fps video and no software is required for the camera to operate. Video can be recorded at 720p resolution with 960 x 720 pixels. The camera is black and silver with a silver mic built-in, the device will go on sale in the US and Europe in July for $129.99.
