Research and Markets says that the iPhone 3G is set to have a significant impact on mobile TV viewing. The firm says that the iPhone will have an impact before mobile broadcasting solutions like DVB-H and MediaFlo have been deployed exclusively.
The firm points out that it may take years before the mobile broadcasting solutions are deployed extensively. The iPhone has the ability to offer video and TV services already without mobile broadcast networks. The iPhone will have a much greater impact with the launch of the 3G model according to the firm because of Apple’s new marketing practices.
The thing that opens up mobile TV watching as a possibility for the iPhone is the 3G connection that is much faster than the EDGE connection on the first gen iPhone. However, with the “nationwide” 3G network AT&T is currently fielding being very spotty in many areas outside of large cities only time will tell if the iPhone 3G has the impact analysts think it will.
