PC-TV tuners aren’t that popular here in the U.S., at least not nearly to the extent of the popularity they enjoy in Europe and Asia. According to Research and Markets the market for PC-TV tuners is quickly moving from analog to digital, which makes sense.
The company says that in 2005 60.1% of PC-TV tuners shipped were analog. In 2006 that percentage dropped to 48.3% and in 2007 the percentage of analog tuners shipped was 39.7%. The drop coincides with the time frame for the expansion of digital broadcasts in Europe, Korea and Japan.
America is expected to see similar growth in digital PC-TV tuners leading up to 2009 when we move to digital broadcasts and growth is expected to continue in Europe and Asia as well. Research and Markets says that by 2012 30.8 million PC-TV tuners will be sold annually with a total retail value of $1.7 billion.
