Seagate owned Maxtor announced a new network attached storage drive today called the Maxtor Central Axis. The drive connects directly to the network in your home or small office and provides 1TB of storage that can be accessed from network computers.
Seagate says that you access the Central Axis device using a web browser and access and share data stored on the Axis drive. The drive provides a secure connection from the computer without having to disable firewalls. Each user is assigned a username and password for access. Content can also be shared with Xbox or PS3 systems on the network. The drive will be available in July for $329.99.
"Our Central Axis solution is a snap to set up and use for nearly every member of the family. Any household with a network would benefit from having a way to back up every PC in the home and share files between them," said BenHur Castor, director of product line management for Seagate's Consumer Solution Division. "Back up is essential to make certain photos, videos and other important files live beyond the life of an individual computer. The Central Axis network drive provides a complete solution for back up storage as well as file sharing in the home and from the road."
