Big Tech Companies buy Patents under Allied Security Trust

The WSJ reports that Tech company heavyweights joining together under Allied Security Trust to buy up key patents before they can be used against them.
Verizon, Google, Cisco and HP are amongst the companies joining their forces against patent suits according to sources of the WSJ.
The NTP patent suit in 2006 that cost RIM $612.5 is apparently one of the motivators behind the effort.
