Sony has removed the new PS3 Firmware 2.40, because of some PS3 owners reports about bricked PS3 consoles after they installed the update.
Sony says on its Playstation blog that the issue is limited to some users, but they want to make sure what is going on and that is why the pulled the update until the issue is resolved.
There is no new release date yet for the firmware 2.40. This is an important PS3 system update as it brings the Trophy system and in-game XMB access.
