California’s high-speed Rail authority approved the Bay Area to Central Valley HST Final Program Environmental Impact Report/Environmental Impact Statement this week that outlines the planned route for the San Francisco to Central Valley high-speed train route.

The planned route will span 800 miles and the route approved is the Pacheco Pass alignment because it was the fastest and most environmentally responsible route to minimize impact on wetlands and the need for another San Francisco Bay crossing. The final approval for the project now goes before California voters.

Voters will get a chance to approve the $9.95 billion plan in November. When completed the high-speed train will travel 800 miles and will carry passengers at speeds up to 220mph. California officials expect that by 2030 the system will carry 100 million passengers per year. When the high-speed train is complete passengers will be able to get from San Francisco to L.A. in less than 2 hours and 40 minutes.
