Seagate Annonces 1.5TB HDD for Desktop and 500GB for Notebooks

Seagate has announced the world’s highest capacity desktop hard drive at 1.5TB is capacity. The drive uses four platters to reach its capacity and Seagate says that this is the biggest increase in hard drive capacity in 50 years.

It has been about a year since Seagate launched its 1TB hard drive. The drive is called the Barracuda 7200.11 and spins at 7200 rpm. Seagate has also announced new notebook hard drives that both have a 500GB storage capacity. One of the notebook drives comes in 5400 rpm and the other is 7200 rpm, both have the same 500GB capacity. The drives will be available in Q4 2008 at undisclosed pricing. The 1.5TB drive also features the option of bulk data encryption with AES encryption.
