In early June we reported that the unlocking of the iPhone 3G will be harder to do than the original iPhone. Then came the announcement by the iPhone Dev Team that their upcoming PwnageTool 2.0 would unlock the iPhone 3G.
Now the group has published the details about the capabilities of the first version of PwnageTool 2.0 and iPhone 3G unlocking is not amongst them.
PwnageTool 2.0 Capabilities for the different iPhones and iTouch:
- iPhone (1st Gen) with 2.0 - Activated, Unlocked & Jailbroken, (with support for third party applications).
- iPod Touch with 2.0 - Activated & Jailbroken, (with support for third party applications).
- iPhone (3G) with 2.0 - Activated, Jailbroken (with support for third party applications).
iPhone Dev Team made some progress on the baseband unlock of the 3G device, but at this point PwnageTool will not support 3G unlocking or BootNeuter on the 3G device.
The PwnageTool 2.0 is not released yet.
More details on the iPhone Dev Team site.
iPhone 3G unlocking is of course much more unattractive as most carriers around the world require you to sign a contract on purchase.
