Golden Shellback Coatings Protect Electronics from Fluids

Right now, you could go down to your local electronics store and probably get your hands on a case for your cellular phone that would protect it from water and other fluids. The catch is that the case would add lots of bulk to your phone and could block some of the ports and controls.
Northeast Maritime Institute has announced the development of a new coating called Golden Shellback Coatings that can prevent electronic devices from being harmed by water, oil, dirt, dust, and other hazardous materials.
The coating is not a spray, but is something applied inside the device. Once applied the coating is thin and clear in color. The device coated can then be completely submerged in water and still operate. According the maker it will be a few months before the process is ready for consumers. However, the process is now being offered to manufactures to apply to items during assembly.
