NASA reports that the Phoenix Lander has confirmed that there is water on Mars.
"We have water," said William Boynton of the University of Arizona, lead scientist for the Thermal and Evolved-Gas Analyzer, or TEGA. "We've seen evidence for this water ice before in observations by the Mars Odyssey orbiter and in disappearing chunks observed by Phoenix last month, but this is the first time Martian water has been touched and tasted."
There is no evidence of organic stuff yet in the Martian water. NASA continues to test the water samples found.
Because of the success of the Phoenix mission NASA got additional funding to continue to examine Mars 5 weeks longer than planned.
More details on the NASA site.
