Google is under fire for issuing contradictory statements on privacy. In California Google told California State Assemblyman Joel Anderson, "Google takes privacy very seriously." On the same day a Google "Evangelist," named Vint Cerf told participants in the Washington Technology Alliance's luncheon that, "nothing you do ever goes away, and nothing you do ever escapes notice... There isn't any privacy, get over it."

Aaron and Christine Boring filed a suit against Google for invasion of privacy after a Google Street View vehicle with cameras drove down their private drive to take images of their Pennsylvania home. In response to the suit Google stated, "Today's satellite-image technology means that even in today's desert, complete privacy does not exist."

To point out how much personal information was being captured by Google Street View cameras. The National Legal and Policy Center released a document showing the threat when in 30 minutes it was able to capture significant personal information on a top Google executive including vehicle license plates, landscape company uses, and the name of the neighbor's security company.
