Micron has announced a pair of new SSDs called the RealSSD P200 and the RealSSD C200. The RealSSD P200 is for the enterprise server environment. The P200 line ranges in capacity from 16GB to 128GB and uses a standard 2.5-inch form factor. The P200 SSD uses single-level cell NAND technology and promises 10 times the performance of traditional enterprise HDDs while consuming 1/10th of the power of a traditional HDD.
The RealSSD C200 is for notebook computers and uses multi-level cell NAND technology. The C200 is available in 2.5-inch and 1.8-inch form factors and will be available in capacities up to 256GB in 2.5-inch and up to 128GB in 1.8-inch. The C200 will have read speeds up to 250MB/s and a write speed up to 100 MB/s.
Both the C20 and P200 SSDs will be available in Q4 2008. "We are seeing SSD interest in a variety of applications where historically hard disk drives have reigned. For many, the most logical place is in notebook computers, but there is incredible value for SSDs in enterprise server systems," said Dean Klein, vice president of memory system development at Micron.
