Canon added a trio of new HD camcorders including the VIXIA HF 11 Dual Flash Camcorder, the VIXIA HG21, and the VIXIA HG20. All of the cameras can record HD video in 24Mbps bit rate recording in AVCHD format. Canon says the high bit rate allows for enhanced detail, finer tonal gradation, and improved reproduction of moving subjects.
The HF11 records video to an internal 32GB flash drive and has a SDHC slot for adding additional memory. The internal drive can record up to 12 hours of HD video. Both the HG21 and HG20 record to internal HDDs. The HG21 has 120GB of storage and the HG20 has 60GB of storage. The HG21 can record up to 45 hours of video and the HG20 can capture up to 22 hours.
Canon says all three camcorders support full HD resolution of 1920 x 1080 and use the Canon DIGIC DV II Image Processor. Other features include SuperRange optical Image Stabilization and Instant AutoFocus. The Canon HF11 will retail for $1199, the HF21 will retail for $1299 and the HG20 will retail for $949. All models come with software for editing video and burning it to Blu-ray.
