We already reported that some iPhone App developers already made a surprising amount of money with their software on the iTunes App Store. Now Steve Jobs told the WSJ in an interview that the iPhone App store already served up 60 million downloads translating in $30 million in sales in the first month.
Steve Jobs already talks about the App Store becoming a billion dollar a year market place. I think he is not even exaggerating here, because at the current rate the store would already turnover $360m per year and the new iPhone 2 OS is just in its first month.
Additionally the iPhone 3G will launch in many new markets this year and demand is still high for the newest iPhone.
Right now the App Store is not a big revenue generator for Apple as it just keeps 30% of the sales, but it sure will drive even more sales of the iPhone and the iPod touch.
More details on the WSJ.
