Best Buy has launched two new programs that it says are intended to help prepare consumers for the analog to digital broadcast transition on February 17, 2009. One of the programs is a microsite that gives consumers access to home theater specialists at Best Buy to answer DTV related questions.
Best Buy also announced an interactive application for the Facebook social networking site to promote DTV awareness. Campaigns to get consumers to buy digital converters if needed and to be aware that the transition is coming. Campaigns are at a fevered pitch now that we are less than 200 days away from the transition.
"With the transition date approaching, we want to do whatever we can to help educate people about their options," said Mike Mohan, senior vice president of consumer electronics for Best Buy. "The Facebook application and our microsite will reach out to new audiences with this message, encouraging young people to make sure they are ready for DTV, and to help family and friends who have not yet prepared."
