We first heard about the Yamaha Bodibeat in 2007. Today, Yamaha announced that the Bodibeat is now shipping for $299.99. The device is an MP3 player that matches the tempo of music stored to the heart rate of user.
The Bodibeat includes Bodibeat station software that automatically categorizes each downloaded song in terms of heart rate per minute. A small heart rate monitor clips on the users ear to track heart rate during a workout.
The Bodibeat player has 512 MB of flash storage and can play 12 hours of music when fully charged. The device has four main operating modes including -- Fitness, Training, Free, Music. The training mode is interesting and allows users to know when to speed up or slow down the workout depending on the music playing. The music player also allows users to specify times, distances, or calorie targets to help structure workouts.
